Marble Surface Protection with Fend Outdoor Surface

Fend is a company which sells water-based nanocoatings for a variety of surfaces. All fend products are non-toxic and biodegradable. Using modern technology Fend products achieve what low-tech, solvent based protective product have never been able to – change the way water behaves, without polluting it. Fend in New Zealand conducted a short trial of our product for marble surface protection. The pdf report can be downloaded here, or read on for an overview of our results.

A test was designed and conducted to demonstrate how FEND™ works to help reduce the capillary action of a marble surface when in contact with liquid. An acid test was also conducted with 100% Acetic Acid, and lemon juice.

Method

Four sample sheets of marble were used. Two sheets had a penetrative sealer already applied, and two were in their raw form. The sheets had not been polished or sanded to a high shine.

FEND™ Outdoor Surface was the product used in these tests. The following surfaces we’re tested:

A simple dropper test was conducted with water, 100% acetic acid, and lemon juice. The test was conducted in a cool room out of direct sunlight. Photos document the moment after the liquid was introduced to the surface, one minute after, and the resulting mark when the liquids were blotted with a paper towel.

FEND™ Outdoor Surface showed excellent hydrophobicity, although did not completely prevent water from making contact with the marble. Photos document FEND™ Outdoor Surface actually creates a more hydrophobic surface than the current sealer used.
